Well all I am using now is strickly latex, SW hotline quick dry waterbased.. I am pretty satisfied with it and dont see a reason or advantage for using oil based, plus oil based is alot more expensive!!

Stay in Florida. If I only used latex I would have shut down the end of October. Oil based keeps us going regardless of the temp. We have our last job set for next tuesday than we are done for the year. Jim

Rich, if your not in a hurry to get that 24 hour drive thru lane back open or get to the next jobsite, there is nothing wrong with latex. But for me, time is money. I sat on a job the other day waiting at least 45 minutes for a fire lane (red "fast-dry" latex) to dry so I could stencil it. If I had used CHlorinated rubber I could have stenciled it in about 10 minutes easily and been on my way. This time of the year or anytime at that, I wouldn't use anything but CR/oilbased paint, the time you save completely offsets any extra material cost. The only time I ever use latex is on fresh sealcoat and in most cases, I've turned those jobs down. As far as changing from CR to latex and back, I had no issues. But, I flushed the latex out immediately after I was done spraying.

So far so good using fast dry latex, I have a dry time down here of about 15 mins usually.. I had done one stop bar and within 15 -20 min I had a car drive over it and no problems.. Im happy with the dry time.. But maybe as I do more then just 1 job Ill learn to try other methods and materials.. It mite also be a climate thing since im in FL

There is a misconception latex is easier to use than alkyds.
