Has anyone tried the wire brush attachment for the powerbroom for removing or cleaning up lines. This seems like it would be a good alternative to sacrificing or pressure washing and most of us have powerbrooms already. The attachments are a bit pricey. $379.00 for wire and even more for the mixed wire and nylon brush.
I use the silicon carbide impregnated 6 inch brush on the right side and the nylon bristle on the left side. There is less resistance or push back with this set up. I use my power broom to loosen dirt and then use a blower to move it. I brush 90% of all lines we paint. The silicon brush is a lot faster when removing stuck dirt. The smaller brush also cleans the top of curbs well and is a bit more balanced. I move my handle to the left side for balance on curbs. I am on my third brush in about a year.(1ST of my second set. I have a job starting next week where we are to brush 80,000 feet of inside warehouse line and repaint. I bought a second Powerbroom from www.ranjos.com this week. If you order the silicon carbide, order a set of the smaller bolts. The longer bolts won't work. Be cautious, one side is right hand threads and the other is left hand. 300 to 325 with shipping is normal.
It depends on your state law. Your state comptroller's office (or similar) could tell you for your state. Here in TX striping is a taxable service for the full amount (materials & labor) so a $100 striping job here would have sales tax of 8.25% for a total of $108.25. (In my city) How often you must report & pay the state may vary... check with your state.
Don's right about the location based reporting here in Texas, and probably similar in other states. If you run a big store, you have a one line sales tax report, but a little striping company has one that stretches over several pages. The tax boundaries are not just city and county, but there are some special tax districts that have their own boundaries. It's a nightmare just figuring out where you are and what tax rate to charge. And when you do the report, you have to break down by location, and each location by the various taxes that apply there. Texas doesn't have a state income tax, so they make it up with property taxes and sales taxes. BTW, I have to pay property taxes on my striping machines...
Our state motto is "Get Taxed or Die!" If I buy an item at retail/wholesale, and get charged sales tax for it, then I don't charge sales tax when I re-sell it. If I buy an item at wholesale and don't get charged sales tax for it, the I have to add sales tax to my invoice when I re-sell it. If I buy several items to make an "assembly", and don't pay sales tax on all of the items, then I have to add sales tax for the completed "assembly". I don't have to charge sales tax for services. I have to file a quarterly sales tax report showing Taxable Sales, Non-Taxable Sales, State Sales Tax Charged, County Sales Tax charged. Contractors often require me to file a Sales Tax Report on projects, showing what Sales Tax I paid, and to what county. Quickbooks takes care of the reporting, I take care of the paperwork. I also pay an income tax AND a property tax.
We charge sales tax on any retail items or tangible goods. And we have a contractors excise tax on services or property improvements. So I charges sales tax on sign sales and excise tax on retripe etc. We also have a Use Tax, the state still wants their 4% if I buy something from out of state. I have to buy commercial license plates by the ton I would be running. We have property tax. But we do not have state income tax yet due to our lucky gamblers...
We charge 5% city sales tax on everything except new construction with a building permit, state, city, federal or non profit with a tax excempt number. We also pay a business property tax based on value of our equipment. There are no other taxs in our state due to the oil profits which are used to run the state.
I'm feeling better after each post I read. No sales tax here in La on striping (services). But, subject to change after any legislative session. As one prestigous poltician (Cleo Fields) said after caught on video accepting a large wad of cash from then Gov (Edwin Edwards)(btw who is currently serving a sentence in Fed prison) "it was a business deal". Hey, they gotta eat too.
