Yep, If you're in Lufkin my sister and 2 nephews live there. I was actually born in Diboll but the family "roots" are up in Henderson (where my dad was from). I have a cross-state heritage thanks to the depression and the oil boom. My grandparents from here went to east Texas during the oil boom because of the depression here. Back then HP was horse power and my grandfather & uncle ran the big teams of like 20 draft horses moving oil field stuff. While there my mom met my dad that was working as an usher in the local movie theater (back when they had ushers) when she & her brother got a rare trip to the movies in town, and the rest as they say... Anyhow my sister is a good deal older than me so she had met her future, now-ex husband when I was like 1, and she married and they settled in Lufkin where he was on the Police force until he retired about the time me & Mon & dad moved away from Diboll. My sister had a small but busy flower shop on Timberland (I think that's the name, one of the main streets) for many years. Now they live in the country just outside town. Anyhow she & the nephews are all named Lewis and depending on your age the nephews were big in sports years ago then about 10 years ago one did a lot of coaching pee-wee stuff and such as his own boy was growing up. Here's a story for you, many years ago when I was 19 I worked at a radio station there called KRBA for a while during my "radio days", a black guy I met at the station who had a black record shop ("soul music wasn't "integrated" & mainstream then) invited me to a notorious black nightclub called Slippery Hill to hear this new comedian he said was unbelievably funny...he said he knew the owners & would take me backstage and introduce me to & "hang out" with the guy and everything and that this guy was so funny he had to be a star someday. I had heard it was a really rough place so I politely declined but later was told the record shop guy was really "in" with the owners and I would have been treated like a VIP while with him, nothing to worry about... anyhow I didn't go hear or meet this then unknown comedian...named Richard Pryor

I wish you were closer to Nashville there Stripes, but I am still fighting the insurance company over all the stuff I had stolen and I can not believe all the hours I have spent looking for receipts and proof of ownership for things I had before I went into business.

Here's where we stand at this point. I just booked the Gazebo area at Sneaky Pete's. We're having fajitas and southern fried catfish on an open buffet. There will be draft beer on tap and an open bar. Not sure if I will be able to get the boat ready by Saturday or not but will try. (Hasn't been out yet this year!!!) Plus not sure just how warm it will be. I've invited a few contractors and some of my associates from my music alter-ego. Robert, be sure to invite Suzanne. MB will be there of course. Also any of the others in your operation. If perhaps some of my music oriented friends show up, never can tell what could develop! FYI to all.... Robert's better half, Suzanne, is one of the most musically accomplished people I've ever met. (And I've met a bunch being an ex-bar owner).

Don if you would have brought some of that 'Soul' music that guy had back then, today you would have been a very rich man. Especially from the independent record labels. Northern soul is among the most expensive of musical genres to collect. Hundreds of 7" vinyl discs have broken the £1,000 ($2,000) barrier. Frank Wilson's "Do I Love You" sold several years ago for £15,000 ($30,000)

You think that's a heartbreaker. ..I lost in a move somewhere over the years an original 78 RPM of Hound Dog by Elvis AND I can't remember the guys name but it was a 45 I got that was of a song called My Bonnie" which was by some singer "with the Beatles" (they were the band) it was their first and only recording before they started recording as The Beatles few copies made it to the USA and it would be worth a fortune. I also had some mint 78's of Benny Goodman & a few other big bands I got because another radio station I worked at was cleaning out an old storeroom and there were some stacks of old 78's in there. They were throwing them away and I asked if I could carry them out and landed about a dozen good ones...they got lost too. Somewhere packed away I believe I still have a 45 copy of Hard Days Night in the original sleeve, but I have lost more money in old records than you can imagine due to having to move often as all "radio tramps" did back in the old days of AM radio. You always kept trying to find a job that paid a bit more in a larger city.

Ken, I can't make it. We have a big musical on Saturday, and I'm working for Suzanne 14 hours that day. I sure did have a good time last year! The weather should be perfect, not too hot, but warm enough for "eye candy".
