This past weekend I scored a deal on some stripers and equipment. The ladies I bought it off of won it a storage locker auction. There is no telling how long the have been sitting. The ladies had them for a year... I got 2 graco 3900s (LL2 & LL3), an airlessco 4000, all the machines were complete, about 50 cones, 20 stencils, and tapes/strings ect... The machines had obviously not been stored properly, paint everywhere! After getting them home, I started looking over more closely and assessing the damage. Lets start with the Airlessco it looks like a decent little machine and the previous owners red machine. I don't plan on messing with it anytime soon. I might just sell it. LL2 which was said to be a 3400, but model number search said differently. it is a one gun 3900 this one is in fair condition, smells like acetone or something in the pump, but I'm sure it will need some work. it was a dedicated yellow machine. The LL3 worst condition, was the white machine. This one needs some professional attention. Dried paint all the way through it. Then bearing housing is cracked and paint coming up the rod. Sherwin Williams has a commercial repair store here in Okc I called for info on getting this one rebuilt and they charge $70 an hour! No thanks I will make an attempt at it first. After all it is winter and I have the time and I will make room in the garage. I am a DIY guy anyhow. I have some small engine capabilities, but never worked on an airless pump. SO for all of you with the know how and that can give me some advice in the steps I am going to take on my road to rebuild these stripers. Please share. I would greatly appreciate your input on how to go about rebuilding the 3900s. And I thank you in advance. First step with the LL3 How to get all of the dried paint out of everything??? I have some pictures I will try to post later today.
A little help please

For starters check out this youtube channel that has a few how to videos to rebuild graco spray pumps http://m.youtube.com/channel/UCF-5bMR7vqincE-DBgpSdvg I also have a video for clutch replacement for a 3400/3500 line lazer if you need it
First off, what is missing? I would get the engine running, and access the condition of the engine. Turn the pump on and see if pump cycles, access the operation. Make a needs list. New paint hoses (all) Pump rebuild kit Gun rebuild kit Cables? Tires? Pressure release valve? Condition of swivel wheel operation? Any welding repairs? Total up your parts value, access. It is up to you, if you want to put a value on your labour. Evaluate, is it worth fixing? Rcan
Small town thanks for the video tutorial. Im sure I will be referring back to it very soon. I've got the LL2 motor running and Im soaking the inlet/suction tube in thinner to get the build up loosened up so I can scrape it out. So as soon as I get that done I will see how she pumps. I still plan on getting the repacking kit (hints the referring back to the video tutorial) I did watch it and I do have to say it looks easier than I expected. Rcan thanks for the check list. The machines are structurally sound. I hoped to refurbish existing parts to keep costs down with the LL2, the LL3 that is a different story it is caked in all lines, so I bet new hoses will be needed. But I will see when I get to that one. I plan to pump some thinner through the hose and let them sit for a day or so to reduce the build up on the LL2. After all it was in the best kept machine out of the 3. What are your opinions on the graco vs china repacking kits?

Do not skimp on parts by buying the cheapest especially on the packing kit unless you are planning to fix to resell Calif Striper is correct by laying out and keeping the parts in order when you disassemble because that will help in making sure you put it back together correctly because the packing kit will come with a real cheesy diagram sheet that is basically worthless, I never rebuilt a spray pump before I rebuilt my 3500 and have to say I used the same method and it was easy and I did it right the first time because I took my time. Also remember that youtube is a very valuable aid in learning to do things yourself and also saves you a ton of money in labor shop fees
Thanks Calif Striper. That sounds like a good idea. Everything usually looks pretty easy when performed by a professional.. As far as the packing kit I already planned on using Gracos kit, I just wanted to know if anyone had used the cheapo before and if it was any good. And I am going to keep the 3900s and put them into use this next season. I have been repairing asphalt, concrete, sealing and crack repair for about 5 years. I picked up a little titan 800 along the way and put it to use, 2014 was my first year to do my own striping, and I enjoy it. So I figured I would get a bigger striper. I got this equipment from these ladies for a steal of a deal. Which actually worked out pretty well in my opinion, having the time to really get to know the 3900 mechanics and repairing it myself. I will be looking to get the second gun for each 3900 if anyone comes across one or has em, let me know. Small town - I agree I really don't like paying for something I know I can learn to do myself, probably why I am striping now a days too lol! Not only that, but Graco parts are expensive enough as it is with out the shop wages! Who has the cheapest priced Graco parts?
I have used these guys in the past to get all of my gun and pump rebuild parts: http://www.paintsprayerslv.com/Graco/graco.htm They ship fast, knowledgeable and are reasonable on price, also check ebay prices but you have to know graco part numbers to be able to get the right parts before buying I also call Graco's tech line for any help in part number cross referencing and parts or user manuals for your pumps: [phone removed]

Note to self... never buy used parts from Small Town Striping. SMH.
No worries because I would never try to sell substandard parts or equipment to anyone on here just because this site and you guys are way too important of a resource to screw up, I will leave that to the flakes on craigslist.
