My used linelazer gm3500 shuts off after approx. 2 minutes of running. at about 1min45seconds, it starts missing, then about 30-45 seconds later shuts off. guy i bought it from said change oil. could find NO honda oil here. used castrol HD 30 weight. filled to overflowing. changed sparkplug. waiting on air filter. tore rotten pre-filter off and re-installed air filter. so far have same results---shuts off about the same i guess. won't run again immediately after shutting off. I would not think the oil alert switch would cause 'missing", but rather shut it off abruptly??? strange it runs a pretty consistent time every time if it's a fuel problem? any help greatly appreciated.

A) You need to run a good synthetic 10w-30 (Mobil One). Don't be chintzy and DON'T overfill. B) you can test the oil switch by disconnecting it. Same results? Then... C) its probably a fuel problem. You can buy a new carb cheaper than anything: http://www.gxparts.com/pc-35-10-carburetor-assembly-gx-14…
tried it with the gas cap off. no different. also even the honda authorized dealer here(did not have honda oil) recommended castrol. i've used it in motorcycles and all my cars and trucks for 35 years. i don't consider it "cheap oil" by any stretch of the imagination. would the oil sensor cause it to miss for 30-45 seconds before it finally shuts off???
jonnybegud - sounds like a carb problem. The fact that you can start it and it runs for a few seconds, then starts missing and dies tells me that the carb is starving for gas. One possibility is that the fuel shut off (lever above the choke) is turned off. The low oil sensor won't cause it to miss, it's either on or off. Gasoline evaporates and gums up the tiny passages in the carb. It's cheaper and much easier to by a new carb than to try to fix one. They haven't made the Linelazer 3500 in many years, be thankful the Honda runs at all. I use Mobil 1 in all my Hondas and have never had oil related problems. The main reason I use synthetic oil is it stays good much longer than conventional oil and I don't keep up with the hours on the motors, I just change oil in all the motors when I think about it.
Thanks, Robert. Are the carbs I hear spoken off here sold by water cannon good?? The honda dealer here(who doesn't even have honda oil) advised against putting an aftermarket carb(cheap) on a HONDA engine. A friend who does some small engine work advises it's water in the gas more than likely by the symptoms. I did pour what i thought was "fresh" gas in it just before the problem erupted. I guess now that i think about it, the gas was probably 3 months old in a plastic closed gas can. next opportunity, i'm going to drain carb, look at it, then drain tank and dry it, and go from there. I didn't realize this machine was that old. i figured 3-4 years old. thanks again!!!!!
If you are going to take the time to work on the carb, remove the float bowl on the bottom of the carb (10mm?) and check the bowl for water, rust and dirt. Place a clear container under the carb before you remove the retaining nut to catch the gas that comes out. Examine the gas in the container and the bowl for water. If you find water, clean entire system and retry. The Honda dealer has a vested interest in selling Honda parts. I use aftermarket parts in both my Honda Engines and Outboards, but its your money. Ooops I mean its your Honda dealer's money.....
I'm with the above, check fuel shut off lever, fuel filter, & drain gas & try fresh before buying a carb. Also you can remove the bowl as BTS suggested but most Honda's have a drain on the bowl (little nut/bolt thing on the bottom to one side) depending on how the motor is situated might be easy to take that out, drain the bowl (then with the container under it try turning the fuel on & off (that will check the lever & filter) and if a bunch of grunge comes out (anything other than clean looking gas) you will know to either pull the bowl, start working on the carb, or just buy a new one. Honda's are about as bullet-proof as they get so usually this kind of stuff is something simple, the engine runs so it's not the oil switch or plug (but you shouldn't have over-filled it) more likely some bad gas or gunk in the carb, or if no gas comes out or only a tiny bit a fuel filter or shut-off lever with gunk in it.
The fuel system is a very (and most likely) canidate, but last week I had the same problem. I checked spark after it died and had none. After checking the oil pressure shut off and it was good, I put on a new coil. The problem stopped immediatly. So even before checking the fuel system after it dies you can check for spark. Accur8

Definitely the heat. Take the bowl off and spry some carb cleaner on it, then put in new gas and some good carb cleaner and let it run a few tanks with carb cleaner, should fix it.
I picked up an almost new accuspray haydraulic sprayer at auction today, runs good, pumps good, just missing gun and hose. Does anybody know anything about this line. Keep in mind this is a stand sprayer, not a line striper. Possibly a good candidate for a sprayer frame conversion.
