I HAVE BEEN STRIPING FOR 3 YEARS NOW , AND HAVE LEARNED A LOT FROM THIS FORUM. I HAVE ONLY USED SW LATEX PAINT, BUT I WANT TO START USING THE ACETONE OIL BASE PAINT AND JUST WANTED TO FIND OUT YOUR ROUTINES FOR CLEANING THE STRIPER I HAVE 2 3900 LINE LAZERS, MY ROUTINE FOR LATEX IS TO FLUSH STRIPER WITH WATER UNTIL IT RUNS CLEAR THEN FLUSH WITH THINNER FOR STORAGE. I ONLY LEAVE PAINT IN THE MACHINE FOR 2 OR 3 DAYS WITH OUT RUNNING IT. I STRIPE PART TIME AND ONLY USE 4 TO 5 HUNDRED GALLONS A YEAR .HOW LONG CAN I LEAVE PAINT IN THE STRIPER WITH OIL BASE ? WHEN I CLEAN THE STRIPER DO I HAVE TO RUN ACETONE THROUGH IT UNTIL IT RUNS CLEAR TOO ?ALSO WHEN I USE LATEX I HAVE TO STIR THE PAINT OFTEN AND USE A BIRD CAGE MIXER ON MY DRILL, DO MOST OF YOU HAVE SHAKERS ? CAN OIL BASE PAINT SIT LONGER WITHOUT STIRRING IT ? ANY REPLY WOULD BE APPRICIATED THANKS

Scottpi, you may get more replies if you cool it on the caps... We leave acetone paint in the machine for several days if necessary in the winter, but I wouldn't leave it in too long. As for clean up, you have to use Acetone to clean and no, I don't run it clean, just kinda clean, clean the filter, then run mineral spirits through it to sit. Don't leave Acetone in the machine, it's a "hot" solvent and could do damage to the packings over long periods. You can leave regular oil based paint in for months, at least we used to, its just Acetone is some nasty stuff. We buy paint as needed so don't have to shake except occasionally, and we just turn it upside down and shake for a minute or two. (unopened of course)
