from what i understand...leaving acetone in the machine ("straight", when cleaning/flushing etc..) is a no no and will mess up packings, i understand a couple or so days is ok, but no longer, i have to use acetone with the new acetone based paint here in east, and i wont leave in machine long at all (mostly because i dont want to push it and screw up and a little paranoid with it).....as to the latex question with some acetone....i am not sure, acetone is not cheap either....it's like $14 a gallon at my sw
I don't know much about mixing Acitone with paint but when (2 oz per 10 gal) mixed with gas or diesel it improves millage by 2 to 3 miles per gal in my trucks also showes increase power and less smoke when I put my foot down. Cautions Keep acetone away from painted surfaces, such as the paint on your car under the gas tank opening. Acetone is the key ingredient in paint remover. In addition to paint, fuels, including acetone, can also dissolve asphalt and most plastics. Never allow skin contact with it. It can damage clothing as well. Don't breathe it. Keep children away from all dangerous chemicals. Read the directions on the container. Acetone is a highly flammable liquid. Do not expose it near a flame or spark. Acetone should be stored outside, with proper ventilation, not inside your house. Gasoline and/or acetone will dissolve cheap plastics, so be sure the container you store it in will not deteriorate. Solvents that can evaporate through plastics (which are, after all, derived from hydrocarbons) should not be stored in any such permeable materials. Keeping a plastic bottle inside the car, especially the SUV or wagon type without a trunk, could expose driver and passengers to small amounts of fumes evaporating through the plastic unless you always drive with windows open.
thanks jim, and that makes me a little more at ease....problem i got (and this is the perfect example) my titan rep told me that "acetone" will affect packings for sure and sw told me this also(when i was talking with him on another issue and acetone came up)....dont get me wrong, i respect your opinion, stripes, robert, don and others here more then i do my titan rep or sw, cause i know you guys speak from expeirance....and he speaks from a book or they say that cause i have a unit under warranty or whatever, but it does make u scratch your head....and get a little paranoid,so i find myself playing it safe and wont let it stay in there for extended times....however like most that i read here, i will go ahead and try it out...it will sure save me money....as mentioned that acetone is high, and clean up is a pain
Johnny, we leave acetone paint in the machines all the time with no problem, as long as they are used often. Don't leave acetone paint in an idle machine, the solvent will evaporate and the paint gets very thick. I've even had it get thick in the hose!!!?? How can that be? If a machine is gonna sit, clean and leave thiner in it. Just stay busy and you never have to clean. The best of both worlds.
The rubber suction hose is the weakest link in the system. No matter what type paint you use, there is always a large air bubble at the top bend in the hose. That is where evaporation takes place and the hose can form a skim or even complete blockage. Some stripers believe their machines are a completely closed system with no air what so ever. That's not the case. In a pinch I've used a clear reinforced sucktion tube to get me thru till could aquire a correct hose. With the clear hose the bubble was clearly visable, and always there.
