That was my first airless. I had the 3100. They are a diaphram pump which means they are working a lot faster than a piston type. The valves are a lot smaller and are a lot more sensitive to less than perfectly strained paint. If you have one, you need to keep a re-built head with you. They go out and you are out of business till you get it replaced. Just takes a few minutes to replace the head, and they charge about $400 to re-build, I think...
I also have a 3100. It takes alot more time and you cannot leave paint in it till you get home to clean it out, I've even had problems with it cloging on real hot days if I leave it sit too long when changing buckets of paint or talking to a customer. And I don't mean the tip cloging. Don't get me wrong it has been a good machine but, I don't do alot of striping. Personaly, as a back up unit or to do just the sealing jobs that need striping it would be okay. But if I were to have alot of production I would talk to some one who has used the other more popular units. It seemed like it took me alot more time and was alot more work than I hear others talking about. I didn't have anyone to talk to before I bought mine and I got a realy good deal on it. Plus it was the only used airless I could find, and I had to do about 1500 feet of curb with a roller so any thing sounded good at that point. Hope this helped, Mike
I had to look it up since it's been about 5 years, but I got the parts to rebuild it and after the trade in it was about $150.00 I just went off the owners manual and ordered parts, with the help of the shop. But it would be worth it to just buy the extra one to have, it will make up for the loss of production and down time. Miine was down 2 or 3 weeks waiting for parts. It all depends on cash flow. I thought I should mention I have only used the unit a few times in the last 3 or 4 years. Mike
Hi, I have a airlessco that has never worked since I bought it new. It is a piston pump model that blew about every 10 gallons of paint. I took it back over 20 times and finally airlessco gave up and told me not to bring it back. They said it was my fault. I have been spray painting for about 25 years and have never managed to tear up a Graco machine. I live in NC their mfg. plant is in California. At the time they didn't have a rep in NC or SC. Each trip was over 100 miles to one of only two places that work on them in a 500 mile radis. Not one time has a airlessco rep ever called me. I placed at least 30 calls to them and never not one call returned. Replaced it with a graco and and have painted over a thousand gallons and not one problem. From what I see now is all airlessco is, is a expensive copy of a graco. The graco rep called me a few days after I bought it, two weeks later, then about 90 days later just to check and make sure all was alright. I now have 4 graco machines without ever one problem. ICI(glidden used to sell airlessco but stopped) store manager told me no one was ever happy with one. Graco and Sherwin Williams is best customer service period.
