Hello, I am a 52 yr.old painting contractor. My doctor says I stand too much. On ladders, in front of walls, etc. Walking, however, would be good for me, he said. What better transition could a painter make than to become a striper? Any advice here? What do you guys say about that? Do you walk a lot? Thanks!

Not if you own lazy liner. If you don't own one, depends on how big the lot is.

I used to walk up to 15 miles a night (maybe more!). I took 4 ibuprofen at the beginning, 4 in the middle, and 4 at the end of the night. I felt great the next day....but the day after....woooooooooo. Yea. you can walk a lot...a lot of people are transitioning into ride-ons, which are excellent for adding a few (ahem!) pounds to your frame. Now I ride a lot...like as much as possible. I figure I am delaying any possible knee replacements...(I'm 50 BTW).

I've climbed ladders for 30+ years and at 59 with two bad knees decided to get into stirping. I asked a few Q's and was told it's like mowing your lawn with a push mower.[my lawn is not as large as some of these lots] There is A LOT of walking. You may want to try it frist, take a push mower put 5 gal of water on it take it to a lot you'd like to stripe and walk each line 3-4 times and see how the ole knees feel after that work out. Good luck Ron

Not sure what you mean by bad knees. Just old and sore or need some internal work? If you really have some knee issues I would get a rider but if the Doc says walkin' will do ya good then learn to live with some pain and enjoy the exercise. If you need to get them op'ed get'm done. I have had two knee operations in the last three years and still prefer to walk. Broke my knee in March 3 years ago and finished the whole season with it. Couldn't get the insurance squared away until April the next year to get the operation done. I was out striping a shopping mall 10 days later using my striper as a walker. Got it op'ed again in March 05 and now it feels 100% I look at it this way.......I would rather get the exercise and kill myself walkin' than to get a rider and kill myself for lack of exercise. And when they bury you....you'l fit in to a smaller (cheaper) box A Friend of mine is a doctor. Repeatedly gets 40'ish and older men in all of the time complaining about the pain. Sad thing is she'll charge you $250 to tell you you're old

If you take Rons advice you'd better dress up like a homeless person so peopele won't think it's too wierd when they see the lawnmower and the bucket of water.

S.A.M. - I pushed for 30 years before getting my LD, also played tennis, hiked etc. but the one thing I never did was run. Running is against my religion, and I always felt like it was too much work just to get the "runner's high" they always talk about. Besides the "runner's high" was caused by endorphins, which the body releases to ease pain, which means the body perceives running as being injurious, so there ya go. Take care of yourself, buy good walking shoes (or a Line Driver) and you'll feel OK at 50. Make sure and lubricate your joints liberally with red wine, and give your liver an occasional Budweiser rinse, and take good care of yourself. All will be well....

ohhh I wish you was my doctor Chip! oh please prescribe me a pint! If your doctor has recommended walking then you've come to the right job, not only on doing the painting but also they can have you walking around six floors going through where and what they want changing. The qualified painters and Decorators I have seen that go in to striping always seem to do a very neat job as well. I would buy a lighter machine if your intention is to walk the machine and not ride it, other wise you may find your walking exercise has turned into a boot camp for stripers. The good thing with a rideon (lazyliner or linedriver) is your still getting exercise because you still have to walk around to the trailer to get it out! Unless you have a set up like wearever and your ride on is even nearer! Good luck with the change over.

You must be pretty thirsty by now..... Red wine is sposed to be good for you! I prefer Natural Light, no taste, and it goes down real easy...like water. If I want to TASTE my beer, I'll have a Yuengling....
