All, I had another post about a job I did last year on what I thought was new concrete. I finally got to talk to the church manager today and he advised me that the concrete had actually been poured in 2012. It had been there about two years before I striped on it. Using Hotline all the striping is pretty well gone other then a few peeling specks here and there. The lot was clean and it was a hot, sunny day when I painted. Does anyone have any ideas what could have happened. With it being two years old sealer/dust proofer shouldn't have been an issue. He is going to have a group of volunteers pressure wash it and I'm going to go back out and restripe with a solvent base and hope it stays longer. Thanks for any ideas

We did one five years old with the same results. Pressure washed and redone it and holding fine. Some of the cure agents will hang around forever.

Concrete can look clean and still be full of dirt.

as a general rule I do not use latex on concrete surfaces.

And this is my new rule. I did a concrete job today and went with solvent based. Real pain in the rear switching from Latex to Solvent and then back but I think it will be worth it. Water is cheaper Appreciate everyone's input.

AAStriping- Just curious... Are you saying that water based paint is cheaper to buy than solvent or latex is cheaper to clean because you use water to clean it or......

Cheaper to clean. I paid the same per gallon for solvent and latex frow SW.

Sherwin Williams sells a water base paint called Pro park,Its specs say use on concrete,I have and it really does stick,Athough it is thicker than hot line and takes longer to dry. Remember if you are spraying on paint that is already chipping then this product wont help much.I recomend Pro Park on bare curbs and concrete,or concrete surfaces that are prepped well. http://www.sherwin-williams.com/painting-contractors/prod…

I actually am having troubles getting Pro Park to stick to concrete. My yellow Hotline stuck great but the blue Pro Park comes right off. Lines are right next to each other. I only use the Pro Park blue because I like the shade of blue it is. Everything else is Hotline.

See if you can get some clear and try adding some to the blue. Clear is just resin and thinner and adding a little more resin with increase adhesion.

The acetone based paint will stick to concrete best

In my experience no asphalt paint will stick to exterior concrete "well" but that has as much to do with the weather here than anything else.
