You can check the tracking by finding a flat smooth surface and snapping a chalkline. 100' long or so if possible. Then push the machine down the line and observe if it tends to go one way or the other. If it's off, you can loosen the lock bolt on the caster plate and make small adjustments until it's right. Then tighten securely. One thing I do when teaching a new man is have him line up and push the machine a few feet down the line without painting to make sure it's lined up. Then pull back and paint. Do this on each start until you are comfortable with your skills. Since you are restriping, you may not need to snap chalklines if the existing lines are straight. You may want to use a pointer so that you know your lines will be exactly on top of the existing ones. After a while, you will be able to hit them accurately without a pointer, but it's a good method to use at first.
