I have to re-stripe a Pay Less Shoe Store tomorrow, and in addition, add a fire lane along the curb. I have tried calling the fire deptartment of the city, and the service dept and left messages, but no one is being very helpful. Is there a standar width and legnth on a firelane. The store itself is about 47'x80'. Thanks in advance for any help!

This varies greatly depending on where you are located. In many parts of the country, Red 6" lines and / or Red painted curbs with white 4" words "No Parking" & "Fire Lane" are the norm. However, in my area, Yellow curbs and 12" words are typical; sometimes with 4" yellow lines about 3' -5' away from but parallel to the curb. Sometimes we even put crosshatched lines in that area. There is no written or enforced standard in our area so we see a lot of variations. What we do in our area may not help you. There is not a uniform nationwide standard for these markings. It really depends on standards for your state, county and city. What do you typically see at other businesses in the community where the Pay Less is located? Ask your customer what they understand or think is required. Offer to paint similar to other comparable properties if you can't get verification; especially if some are fairly "new" properties.
codes do vary greatly, youll have to get the info from your local fire marshal. in mecklenberg co in nc the standard for an inforcable fire lane is 11-12 feet in width with 96" letters, lines and text are reflective. no red nor yellow required on curbing. signs every 100-150 feet.
