We had to replace and engine on a line driver, bought a new GX160 (not from Graco) installed it and works great. BUT, on Gracos gx160s they have two wires coming out of the shroud by the pull starter, Now I cant hook up the regulator because of the lack of wires. (Randy I might have used regulator for you cheap) Does anyone know where these two wires are coming from??? I took off the shroud from a different unit and still could not trace the wires. Thanks Jim

The wires go to a unit behind the flywheel to produce the 12 volts to run the light. If you did not order a motor that will charge or produce 12 volts you won't be able to use the light. However if the parts are interchangeable just pop the flywheel and do a change over, you will need to change over the electronics and the flywheel. www.honda-engines.com/gx160.htm You will be looking for the 50W lamp coil which I believe is behind the flywheel.

That would go to the alternator. You should be able to use the one on the old engine or get the kit from Honda. You do need it for the light.

Jim, Graco buy trailerloads of engines to get a specific engine with the charging system. I am sure we are not the only one using the engine, but it is definitely not the readily available 5.5 engine found everywhere. Since you are this deep into it I would take the charging system out of the old engine and swap it out. I am guessing it is just a bolt on. From a manufacturers perspective, I can tell you a story about looking to changeover a particular Graco pump (non striper) to include a Honda instead of Kohler. We were told it would take about a year for our first batch of engines (1" longer shaft) to arrive. Needless to say it has a Kohler.

If you've missed the previous posts, we are having a "gathering" of those who are involved with (directly or indirectly) the parking lot striping trade. It is scheduled for the weekend of June 17-19. It literally will be an "international" event because the notorious "Wendy" and accomplices are making the trip from Kiwiland. I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't 1 or canucks who show up. Check the previous post for "Striper's" Jamboree" for a preliminary list of attendiees and other particulars. There will be (like on Seinfeld) a lot of "nothin" goin on.....just a relaxing time at the lake (some diversions). I'm certain there will be a ton of "striper's tales going on. There will be an abundance of food and beverages....heavy on the beverages.... E-mail me if you'd wish to be added to the list.

Jim, If you decide to not swap out the charging system into your new engine, I'll buy the Graco regulator from you. Just let me know

Jim, it may involve more than just swapping out the alternator. It may involve a different flywheel AND the engine may not be machined clearance to accept the generator. I'd check with a Honda dealer.
