For the past year we have been using the 15 gallon hoppers so we have not had this problem. We plan to start using 5 gallon buckets and I am wondering how you guys get both the suction line and return to into the 5 gallon bucket through the holes provided. I have attached photos to detail my question. Any thoughts would be much appreciated!!!
Graco tube into bucket

First take that useless plastic deflector off the return tube. If your rock catcher fits through the big hole, insert it through the hole and then drill a small hole the same diameter as the suction tube and insert into bucket. Keep this lid on the machine all the time. When paint gets low, lift entire cover off to the side with both tubes still inserted and refill bucket. If you wrap a rag around the small gap on the big tube and press lid on tight you can transport without fear of spillage. If you want to make it even tighter, remove the rock catcher, drill a hole the same diameter as the suction tube, insert and then screw the rock catcher back on. Tat007

are you using oil or latex? I guess I use the graco lid because we have to screen all latex paint. So I have the lid off anyway to mix and screen. Graco just came out with a new lid design that seals things up a little better also.

Do you have the part number for this new lid? I just ordered one last week and I'd like to see if it's the new one or the old one.

That guy is nuts! BTW... anyone can friend him on fb if they'd like. He posts a lot of striping videos, tips, and tricks.
We use something similar to the video. A hole punch made from 3 inch pipe with a with a wedge point and a handle to punch a hole in the top. Works great and little to no spillage. Note: Learned from Stripes, he's been using it for at least 15 years.
As far as I know, those holes in the lids are for the paint distributer to tint the paint. Whether its white being tinted to blue or yellow to green. I wondered the same thing until I saw them using that same hole. I do wish there was a way to travel between jobs with a 5 gal bucket without paint spilling, rather than using the hopper and trash bag all the time though
