I just finished painting my first wood gym floor. I have done a lot of basketball courts on concrete and asphalt, and also applied court surfacing and painted lines, but this is my first high school gym floor. A friend is a wood floor contractor, and he sanded the floor down to bare wood, and sealed it before I started painting. He will apply more coats of sealer after the paint is cured. I have posted pics in the Photo Gallery

Robert, went to look at pics. but did not find them yet. How did it go for you? I have turned down running tracks, gym floors, and tennis courts, but feel comfortable with basket ball courts. At night with my eyes closed I see big doolar signs just out of reach because of the lack of comfort which for the most part is do to the tight tolerances on high school projects. Did you use enamel paint? All the best.

I think I fixed the link. If it doesn't work, clikc on the Photo Gallery link at the top of this page, and then look for the album "Roberts gym Floor". I used paint furnished by Poloplaz. They make the finishing system for gym floors. The paint is oil based, and really good. It's like the old time sign painter's paint called "One Shot". I wanted to use their paint so all the coatings would be compatable. High school gym floors have to be accurate, but the nice thing about the Sport Taper, is you can tape it off and if the line isn't perfect, pull up the tape and do it over.

Reaallllly nice looking work. I hope you got a mint for it. How long did it take? Looks like too much work for an old man like me. Still very impressive. Think I'll stick to specializing in firelane.

It took about 4 days. A lot of the time was waiting for paint to dry. I didn't want to use the chalkline due to the mess of the chalk, so we pulled weedeater string (thanks Ken for the idea) for the straight lines. Pulling the string took two helpers, but most of the time I just had one helper. I didn't charge much for this job, but there are only a few companies that do this kind of work, and they charge approximately 1.5 mints for a gym floor/

Great looking job!!!!! We've have done one with basket ball and volley ball. It does take alot of time to do these right. I bet the next one won't be this pricing.

I have done a lot of courts on concrete gym floors. Layout, tape off with Sport Taper, paint one coat with striping machine, one helper, 6 hours. This one was my first wood floor and I put on two coats of paint and sanded between coats, so it took a lot longer than the concrete floors.
