Hey guys , I'm a little confused as to where I should apply the tsl on my new machine. Is the packing nut behind a little black shield? If so, I'm not understanding how to apply the oil. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to hold the tsl- it just drips down the side of the pump. I was expecting a reservoir or similar setup. Please help so I get this right before friday's jobs. Please bear with me as I learn about this Cadillac-of-a-machine. Thanks, ACE

Stick the nozzle of the TSL bottle against the pump rod where it meets the little black shield and squeeze. The cup is under that shield and it doesn't take much to fill it up. When it overflows, quit squeezing!

Ace, you bought a great machine and best of luck. Regarding adding TSL, the black cover is simply a protective cover. The bronze nut is bowl shaped on the inside. As Born to stripe stated you can simply hold the bottle to the base of the shaft where it meets the black cap. Another way is to get a screw driver and pry/separate the black cap from the brass nut and simply fill the "bowl". Unfortunately the tolerances between the black cap and the brass nut is very tight and getting them to separate can be a pain at times. Obviously, never add TSL while the engine is running (pump stroking). Enjoy your investment!

I think Ace is referring to the shield in this picture (#258): I would take the (expletive) thing off. Edit: right-click on the picture and select "View Image"

Ace, Got paint on machine yet? I found another use for the TSL. Down where your gun holders are where the cable meets the gun holder turn holder up facing you. Squirt TSL down inside the cable. It keeps paint overspray from setting up in cable or has in mine. Also keep small rollers clean that gun sets on.. just my two cents worth

Hey Ace, I ran into the same issue. I got my 3900 a few months back and had the same question. I just filled to what I thought was enough but noticed some dripping after use in my trailer so I think I over filled the first couple of times. Now just a few drops prior to using it seems to do the trick.

Ok Ace, you sold me. I just ordered mine. Hope I love it as much as you do. My old 3500 couldn't keep up with lazy liner and have a bunch of cross walks to do. Hope it all fits in trailer or will have a 3500 for sale. Milt

I do love the 3900!! I bid on a big strore parking lot and and won it wednesday-the same day my machine came in. What timing!! I spent a few hours last night and virtually had it all finished before I felt a few rain sprinkles. This machine will make me waaaay more productive. I have no complaints whatsoever. The fast trac front wheel has got to be the most surprising thing about it . I love it. Thanks for all the help guys, ACE

Get a bigger trailer. Don't sell your 3500. Start using it as a dedicated color. Same with the 3900. Leave paint in the machines (not under pressure). Save yourself hours of lost productivity. Be striping while others are cleaning.

The packing nut has about a one half once reservoir to it. Just removed my pump so I know. I used to worry about filling it, I used a syringe to be neat. As long as you see oil, I would not worry. Always keep an eye on it though.

Well I was being careful at first because the blue metallic paint is sooo pretty but....Well.... you know the rest. I got paint on it and it didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would. I like to keep everything clean but trying to keep that thing emaculate would take up a lot of my striping time. Thanks for asking though. Oh yeah, STRIPES, can I leave latex paint in the machine? If so, what's the procedure for shutting down at the end of the day? Thanks, ACE

Don't ask ///STRIPES\\\ about latex - he never touches the stuff. You can leave it in overnight, but it's more likely to settle out in low places and muck up things. Some machines can have big problems with corrosion if you leaver water based paint in them, Graco won't have corrosion problems, but latex can clog up if it's not fresh. Oil based is ok to leave in for a few days.
