I have a 13hp Honda that seized. Does anyone have any input as to cost for overhaul vs replacement?

I have rebuilt one before. I have found it cheaper and quicker to just have a spare motor (block) and just swap it out. Im not handy enough to rebuild. I had a linedriver run onve by a trailertruck 2 years ago. It snapped the motor casing open. I tossed it and put on a new one for $400.00. I had to swap over the generator part of the motor thats all. Jon

I had that happen once it it was the chain inside where the crank shaft cogs are, it had snapped. Took it down to the local lawnmowers and they sorted it for 40 bucks. Just drop it of at your local mower shop and ask them to give you a broken down price of parts and labour, you can then decide if it's worth it or not. In the mean time your free to stripe!!! and you know you love to stipe and stripe aaanndd stripe hehhe

Ken: Rebuilt a 5.5 last year, mistake. Even with having one of my employee's doing the work for me the price of each and every little gasket and screw individual cost, the cost was more than just getting a new engine. Bob

Ken, I'd check Northern Tool, they stock a good selection of Honda/Briggs/Kohler Engines. When my 18HP Vanguard(pressure washer) went down it was gonna be $850 to fix it verses $1200 -$1500 for a new engine. It cost me $35 to have it tore apart. I actually opted for $4300 for a whole new pressure washer. I just hated to put a new engine on an old worn out pump and heater. Just be sure and match up your engine code and you'll have to use your existing exhaust in most cases.
