Hi all! I'm not a striper, just a homeowner. We've had paint-the-house-number-on-the-curb crooks targeting our neighborhood the last couple of days, with at least one man in the crew knocking on neighbors' doors after midnight demanding payment. In order to protect our elderly and our, well, stupid neighbors I've decided to do it for "free", as long as they make a $25 donation to my favorite local charity. What I need to know from you experts is what type and color of paint. I've searched my city's govt web site (Dallas, TX) but can't find a single mention of a preferred or required anything. So, what should I use for the background; what should I use for the numbers? And any handy tips for someone doing it the old-fashioned way (no fancy sprayers or machinery of any kind)? :-) Thanks!!!!! Michele in Dallas

Hello. We have a couple that comes around about every November to do ours. The paint that they use is just inverted traffic paint and assorted Krylon colors. They clean the curb, tape out a rectangle, paint the background, then lay the number stencils over and spray them. Typically the cities don't regulate this type of service as far as type or preference of paints. I actually think it is helpful in locating addresses. There is one guy in our area that advertises in some of the local publications and does college and pro team logos with the numbers. Hope it helps.

Being that I am in the Austin area, I would recommend using burnt orange for the background and white for the letters Seriously though, depending on how many you plan to do, the paper number stencils at home depot or lowes ( 4" ) should get you by. for the background, use tape or you might want to make a stencil using cardboard cut out into the size of the box you need. For paint type, use whatever is cheap and quick drying. Home Depot has some for 98 cents a can. I doubt color really matters....

Does anyone think that he should use glass bead for emergency personnel? I would try to buy glass bead, probably can get it at Sherwin Williams and shake it on the wet paint.
