Hello everyone! I was wondering how you people felt about this. Last Sunday it was overcast with a 60% chance of rain and maybe some sleet. The temperature didn't get above 43 degrees all day, that's night low was going be around 27 degrees. The next days high 46. I was coming home from eating and saw a sealcoating company just finishing up a job about dark. The business they were sealing is the largest furniture group of stores in the south. The family that owns this building probably owns over a million square feet of pavement in this town. The owner is on the city council. These are not dumb people. My company and others have bid on these parking lots to do it the right way. I have even had a sealmaster rep talk to the owner of the company. This sealcoating company seals year around as long as it will spray out of there machine and the pavement is not wet or froze. Here is my questions: How come the owners of the parking lots are letting someone seal under these conditions? How are these people still in business after 10 years? ( the sealcoaters) Am I missing something or is there sealer out there that can be applied at freezing temperatures? If the owners did want any more sealcoating done should I do it or leave it alone because someone might think I was the one out there when it was about to sleet? When looking back over the past 5 or 6 years this sealcoating company has probably sealed over $100,00 worth of pavement in 40 degree or below weather. That is a lot of money out of a decent persons pocket. I am really looking forward to hearing what you guys think? Thanks, Jim Off-topic: was posted in striping forum originally. No mention of striping.

Jim: Not sure of an answer to your question there. From what you expressed it might be like one of the companies here that have it done every year first week in November at night and will have the business open by 9 PM. I to am not sure what is going through these peoples mines. One response that I did receive is it is a tax right off so why not have it done every year. This coming from a manager of a large chain auto parts store. I for one do not get anywhere near those types of situation if at all possible. We just keep on trying to educate the local customers about the how and why. Just my two cents Bob

JimJack-Before I can answer some of your questions, I need to ask one: What does their work look like when it is finished?

JimJack, I agree with ware-ever. What does their work look like when finished and what does it look like 6-12 months down the road in comparison to the work that your company does. We have a so-called "Pro" in my area that seals when cold, threat of rain, etc. "Pro" charges peanuts to get the work. He thinks he is going to run all his competitors out of business by turning money not making it. His work looks good when he finishes, 3 months later it looks like crap. Take time table photos of your jobs, Completion, 6 months, 12 months. Go back and look at his work at the same time tables. There is no comparison to a good squeegee coat or 2 coats of sprayed sealer vs. 1 sprayed coat. Also is he using fortifiers in his mix, Diamond shield, FSA, Sand, Etc.? Domingo
