Giving alot of estimates here in Massachusetts. It looks like it might be an ok year. Still waiting for all the sand to be cleaned up and the weather to warm up.

Hoping that this year it will jump start a bit quicker, as we made some contact with realestat company and the government(public works) last summer. GOOD GOD this winter is soooooooo long!

Just as a note FYI on the trends of how work may go this year: I check the databases & stuff for the NPCA now & then (clean them up & maintain the workings like I do for Robert here) and their searches are higher this year than ever (9 years) in their history. I mean they have people who had 20 referrals this time last year at 100 or more and people in "cold" states who had 2-5 last year already at 25 or 30... It's crazy. I'm on the advisory board so I know their promotions don't start running until the last part of next month so there is no "reason" for all the searches. As of today (when I was working on the db) they had 1,093 searches so far this month-- and it's MARCH , ...normal would be 5-600 for March, usual in Jan is high (budgets) Feb is low, then March starts the build up towards summer, that's the "normal" pattern"...but not like this...very strange for a slow economy (of categories most are asphalt repair, then sealing, paving & striping in that order; that's normal, it's just the overall numbers that are high -and concrete has jumped way up-no reason for that except maybe people think it's cheaper than asphalt now) Already 2,162 referrals to members this year and last year was 1,595 by end of March-6 more days to go...it's strange but for some reason people are hitting there like crazy up approx 25% and they had been planning for everything to be slow because of the economy... Don't know what it means and I can't tell the areas from the db but something's up

I think people are starting to understand the economy is is not the way the news is reporting it to be. Sure a lot of people are out of work, why? We all need the same food, clothing, transportation, housing, etc. so the demand is still there. There are to many people running around with blindfolds on listing to the news saying the sky is falling. Covering there head and hiding under the table. Some are now sticking there head out and looking around and realising for the most part it is all a hype. Those that take advantage of things now are the ones that will be ahead when things finally brake loose. Is there any one of you that has had a direct stimulus from our government? are there any of you that has gotten a job that has been solely funded by any of these stimulus packages? Not I know a guy that has a brother thats wife's uncle got a job because of it I mean you directly. I would lay odds that less then 1% of us blue collar workers will ever see a penny of it. For every dollar that is given out there will be $500 to monitor it to see it was spent right. All we are doing is building a bureaucracy. Most of this money is been spent to push paper.

Ken, If that was a La Quinta your guy was finishing, I was the one who abandoned the project. The owner had me wash the parking lot the day before a 3 day rain even after I told him that it would wash dirt back on the lot, he insisted it be washed. He then wanted me to wash the parking lot again for free after the rains, I told him I would wash again it but would have to charge him. Apparenly you ether did it for free or he ended up paying you. I don't feel like I abandoned the project as much as I refuse to work for free.

Domingo, I also have a 3500 that is going to need an engine soon. What engine did you finally go with and where did you get it? Thanks

You can not replace an engine on a Graco striper with a knock off. You need that extra power unit on it to run the pump. As pipper said it will not work on everything.

Jpanz, does the standard GX120 UI work or do I need to special order one?

I am all about knock off engines, but for something like a striper that is your life blood in the striping business, its just one of those repairs you may want to put OEM stuff back on if there is a chance of not working right down the road.. I just wouldnt want to risk it unless I had talked with someone who had done it with luck.. IMHO

We bought about eight of those cheap chinese knock-off engines to put on our scarifiers and blowers that had died over the years. Two years later, only one of them still ran, and it smokes like crazy (still does, it won't die) We ended up buying hondas to put back on the machines. smallenginewarehouse.com has the best prices I've found so far for Hondas.
