No, You need to have atomizing air to break up the paint in fine particles. That is if you care what the finished product looks like.

Good Luck, use a black tip and a very small size like a 211. I painted the back of my rack truck with a unit, it worked. Jim

Industrial enamel will lay on really slick using a RAC tip.

why don't you spray-bomb it. I know some people who can paint pretty good with a can of Krylon

AC, I would say no but that would depend on how picky you are regarding the finish. If you have a multi-color clunker of a truck that you just want to have uniform color coat and are not very particular about appearance, then sure it sprays paint and it could be used. Think of airless as a tool that puts on a heavy "protective" coat. External mix air spray (auto body style gun) is used to "enhance" a finish with multiple thin and fine coats. Graco makes a green AL tip that is called a fine finish tip that applies paint very differently than a striping tip. These tip are used for painting metal doors, lockers and even work exceptionally well with Lacquers and other thin and fine coatings. Striping tips a designed to apply very heavy edges to the pattern while the green tips have very light or faint edges. This is done so that you do not have obvious overlaps, or "banding" on the finished surface. Having a non- porous surface like metal only accentuates the problem. The black tips deliver a finish somewhere between the two. So if you are looking for an automotive finish get an HVLP or external mix conventional air gun, and forget airless.

The airless job will look better then a roller/brush job. You can get a HVLP gun for under $100 at most pawn shops.
