Besides increased drying time, are there other issues with painting under 60 degrees? Are there bonding issues as well?

I use SW setfast latex paint.

I have applied alkyd and latex paints on clean surfaces in temps down to and below freezing with no adverse effects on longevity or adhesion. On the other hand, I have applied both types on less than desirable surface conditions with excellent temp and humidity conditions and had the paint not last a month. In my opinion, if the surface is clean and dry, put the paint down.

There can be issues with premature wear if waterbased paint is applied at too low a temp. it's like sealer, droplets of resin suspended in water. As the water evaporates, the droplets come together and form a bond. If it's too cold, the droplets are hard and don't combine. Then you have a powdery coat of resin instead of a solid film. I think you are OK down to 50 deg f, but it gets iffy below. One thing to take into consideration is the temp of the pavement. If it's sunny and 35, and the black pavement is warmer, then the paint will probably be ok.

Another thing to watch out for if you use solvent paints, in some areas of the country at night or in the morning the humidity rises, and at the time the temp may not be too bad either, but what happens, is you get a small amount of moisture on the asphalt that is difficult to see at night, if that happens the paint will peel. If we can see the humidity around the parking lot lights then we will stop paining for the night. Also most paint MFG's will not warranty their paint if sprayed below 40 degrees (even though everybody has one time or another ).

i would like to see designs of some of you other folks' trailers for some ideas for mine.

Thanks, I'll have to give it a try.
