Does anyone have any opinions on the best least-fading red FAA airport paint 1952e....Red seems to fade pretty badly, just looking to see if anyone has any experience with a brand that holds longer... Thanks much! /Don

I have painted a hundreds of the surface ID. boxes and have never used any red paint that didn't fade quickly. Good luck finding a red that doesn't.

I use Ennis red solvent paint exclusively and have not experienced any premature fading. However, I couldn't tell you if it is a 1952e spec.

Thanks for the feedback, Rock & Dennis - we are spec'd waterborne, and I agree with Rock - haven't seen a red that didn't fade....just gotta get the spec. I'll probably go with Safety Coatings.... /Don

Buy your red from Swarco, ( Colorado Paint ) ask for their Ultra Red, waterbase, its a highbuild, and uses the same pigments in a ferrari paint. holds up great, almost no fading, and use white as well for the letters, its the best thing going for the surface painted hold signs where paint is concerned.

1952e is Federal spec for fast drying waterborne (latex). So, the solvent based paint does not meet 1952e.
