I tried using Frog Tape to cut the border of the 4' x4' square and got a good edge but it is a bear to get it down where it will stay on asphalt. I was a template maker/ironworker for 40 years and thought of making a card board template. Any other suggestions are more than welcome. This forum has taught me many things. Thank you all

reb68 - since you are using a roller , trace the outside of the stencil with crayon, chalk, grease pencil or soapstone as suggested by jpanz and then hand roll the the blue square. Be sure to not have too much paint on the roller while painting the perimeter. My experience is that when using a roller , I don't get much better edges using a template than without a template; probabaly because the paint can (usually will) seep under the template edge because of the rough surface of the asphalt. Also, cardboard templates / stencils only hold up for a few uses and will need to be replaced frequently. Like Milt, in our area, we also usually finish the square by painting a white border with the paint machine just before painting the HC symbol white on the blue square. We have some in our area that spray yellow symbol and border on blue squares. I personally think the white looks better and is closer to the actual ADA standards - since ADA signs are always white & blue; not yellow & blue.
