I was over to the local SW store a while back and they had a memo from the Powers That Be in SW-land. Seems that SW wants to eliminate the "exception" pricing that goes on in all their lines, and have a narrower range of prices for each product line. I'm sure many of you have noticed that the same product can vary from $1-$5+ per gallon, depending on market. They plan to phase this in by March 2006. Anyone else seen anything on this? It will be interesting to see what happens when we meet our SW rep to hash out a price list for 2006.....

Have not hear about the narrower range of prices, have seen the increase that Straightline spoke of. At least Jim you had a new store manager to deal with I have the same one with the same reasons as always "everything is going up", with the same 30% over the last year. I to will be looking at other suppliers. Bob
Oh yea if you are buying a line of paint that you really don't use. you are going to have to get that product without the painters discount. But as far as the striping paint and everything that you are using a daily basis ( It may be more), it is all going to be going up atleast15%. my sales manager says that it will stay that way till 2007. So then I asked will it go down in 2007? He kindly said No -Dean
You need to get your sherwin williams rep to give you price quotes . the stores try to bump all prices!!!!!! to make the most profit they can ,these guys get paid on margins give it a try!!!!>>> you have nothing to loose except the higher price!!do your home work first, have there competitors price in hand and tell them to beat it!!!!!!! plan it right and make your rep meet you at lunch!!!! on them!
We buy a good amount of paint per year and we were gettting set fast at $9.00 gallon. We were bidding on this job that was going to allow us to buy it by the 55 gallon drum which was going to drop the price to $7.75 gallon. Then I started to look at the booklet that I got at the Expo this year from TranSafe and they had the prices at $6.50 gallon. Transsafe is a suppiler for Ennis Paints. So i called Ennis to get a price quote and they sent me out a 5 to try. We are still using the SW paint just have not had a chance to try it yet. Then I called TranSafe for the a price on there paint a couple of days ago and there prices have gone up also to like $7.50 gallon. It seems like all the paint suppilers are going to be going up in their prices. trust me if we were to get this job I will go up to SW and get them to either meet or beat TranSafe's prices. -Dean
SW is all about the relationship you have with the store manager or regional sales rep, both have got great deals for us, problem now is they just cant get a good quality paint. We have been quoted a really good price from "our" store, but when we need to stop into a different one the price goes up with no negotiation, so we have to go back to "our" store and have the prices adjusted later..what a joke huh..
The crazy thing is, the prices are in the computer, just not the regular price we pay, but I will admit the ones in the computer at the other store or still better then if you go into a SW with out an account. I feel sorry for the poor guys that do that, several years ago when we first approached SW they wanted $20+ a gal for CR, now that is a joke.. I guess on the bright side it helps justify price increases, just send your clients in for a quote on traffic paint..
Stripes, I envy your price on red alkyd. With the current price increases we are getting boned by SW at $20.25 per gallon. RC at $15.68. We have an ICI paint store in the area, but are not real pleased with their RC paint. It's not any cheaper either. We have a purchased Standard's paint and have had very favorable results, but the nearest supplier is 4 hours away, and paying shipping costs puts us at a higher price than SW, even in 2 pallet quantities. Just my 2 cents. Domingo

AsphaltMan: when you stop at another store just have the information as in store number from your home store. The store you are stopping at has the ability to call up your price list that way and it will stop all of the paperwork you are having to do. We travel and have to do it at times ourselves. RF Elwell
Good point Bob. Perhaps S&W won't negotiate with me anymore because I sent the last 2 pallets of CR paintback to the commercial store on Henderson St in Ft Worth. 'Wouldn't atomize or dry. Tracked like crazy. Yellow turned black from tires. The manager pretty much called me a liar. I asked him to step outside and permit me to demonstrate but he wouldn't. His response was "I don't need to because I sell thousands of gallons every day." My thought was he's still selling thousands of gallons of defective paint every day. ICI works well but I have to take time to strain it. Standard Paint still fogs like crazy. You can bet it will be a while before I buy anymore CR from S&W. Why pay premium price for substandard paint?
I will try that Bob, thanks. Last time we tried to get several stores to get the right pricing in the comp, it lasted a week then all but our home store started creeping up, and sometimes when my guys pick up the paint they dont know where we should be at or forget to check..
Asphalt Man: not a problem with the tip. All store are suppose to honor the prices that you have set within the system. It may be that you have to get your store manager or area rep involved when you go out of town. As in calling the store that you might have to go to, too in sure they have your correct pricing. I at time do this to insure that they have the type of paint i might need and to make sure that they have my pricing. Bob
