Hey guys (and gals) - I am looking for a device to make it a little easier to remove old twisted U shaped sign poles. can anyone help me out? Ha anyone ever made one or seen one for sale somewhere? I have a prop mgr that wants 10 of them removed and no damage to the asphalt. Tiny

Those look like alot of work........I used to pull alot of metal "T" posts out of the ground and the simplest way is using a hi-lift jack and a piece of chain. Put down a small piece of plywood, say 12x12 (to prevent the hi-lift from digging into the pavement), then put a half hitch around the post and loop the other end over the jack . Now just jack it straight up out of the ground. The jack does all the work, not you.... here's a pic of a hi-lift if you aren't familiar with one.

Single leg pullers can cause problems in asphalt - doesn't pull straight up. Try http://www.skidril.com/p600.htm . Expensive to buy, but easy to use.

I had talked with a friend who is a contractor and somewhat of a packrat that saves everything and he found a high lift jack in his shop that hadn't been used in 10+ years - he gave it to me and I cleaned and lubed it and it works great!

I have hooked a chain around them and to our plow pump, hit the up button and bam.......not the most conventional method but it works.

Yeah, it's hard to break a hi lift, just spray some WD 40 on it and it's good to go. Just remember to put a square of plywood under it to prevent it from digging into the pavement. I might would even cut a slot into it so it would go right up against the post with some extra wrapping around.......... PS ,that handle has a tendency to come back up at you pretty fast if the pin doesn't slide into place on the down stroke, so stand to the side of the handle while you are jacking! I know a guy who got hit right under the chin with one. ( didn't knock me out though)JK
