Any of you fellow northern stripers hit the trails on a sled for R&R in the winter? Whitey

I've got an Arctic Cat T660 Turbo. Can't wait to get back out on the snow this winter... can't be long now.

I have two Ski-doo GSX 600's (sorry no pics) and hit Old Forge this past weekend for opening snowdeo weekend. It was pretty good. Not too crowded, and the trails had better than expected base....

I've never ridden there sounds too weekend-warrior-ish for my taste. we typically ride in North Warren county or head over to Riparius or go boon docking in the woods up in Minerva, NY Incase anyones interested, I've got a 2003? Pantera EFI 600 2 up touring sled for sale. Awesome trail and great mountain sled, It even has remote start.

If by weekend warriorish you mean, lots of hard trail ridding and lake blasts at over 100mph to the nearest bar for a refreshment. Your right on the money.... I checked on the map and those arent that far from Old Forge. You have to try it at least once. It's not that much more of a ride from where you are going anyway. We have a house there, but if you need a cheap place to stay, stay at the water park for about $69.00 a night. What's boon docking in Minerva? Do any of those places have ride up adult refreshments live bands and food?

Thats exactly what I meant by weekend warriorish. Don't get me wrong, I love to ride hard and fast, but under the proper circumstances. Last year I almost got totaled by some yahoo leading a pack coming 60+ mph over a blind hill. If you need to do 60+ wait til you hit the lakes or get to canada where you have your own travel lanes & good line of sight. *gets off his soap box* North Warren Trails are somewhat secluded from the rest since we can't connect to the north creek system any more (but we're working on it). Its a nice system, we've got 3 or 4 groomers now and trails are usually in great shape thanks to the clubs volunteers. there are probably half a dozen bars and another half dozen diners/restaurants that have access from the trails. The North creek trails connect out to speculator and old forge, its really nice secluded riding over there with some nice views. There are some real billy-goat trails, we came down one last year, it was the steepest grade i've ever ridden, basically a 1-1.5mile slide down a cliff with a few turns thrown in. Boondocking is busting your own trail, no groomers, no official trails, although its typically old logged trails or hunting paths. We do this on private property (with permission) and its a blast.

Last year I wrecked a brand new ski-doo blizzard 600 with less than 700 miles on it. (Thank God for insurance). We were zipping thru the trails at about 30 during a whiteout at night. I moved to the left while I was behind someone that was kicking up snow, and SMASH. I blindly dropped off a bridge 8' into a man made drain basin, that was assembled from concrete walls and railroad ties. I smacked the far wall, and it thru me onto a snow bank. I walked away with nothing more than a bruised leg. Someone was watching over me that night....The sled of course was totaled......good-times, good-times........ Oh yeah...And I wasn't even drinking....

Nice Cat, Shep Do you really drive that truck that often? That is very cool. I think I remember seeing that track conversion somewhere.....I've been wanting to take a ride to Canada one year with my friends, we hear you have some excellent trails. But, I checked some of the trails recently and it seems that Ontario has most trails closed still. Is that normal for this time of year? Whitey

Yes, as we have only had snow for a few weeks, most trails are not ready to go yet. Many trails go over river's and streams, or lakes, and there are just now getting to a safe thinkness for the grommers to start working them up. Herd the trails in Quebec are getting good, love the trails there, they rock !!
