Is anyone else getting contacted by Target again for the striping of their stores for the fall? Earlier this spring they were contacting quite a few stripers trying to get new vendors I guess. They never followed up with their contacts then. Now they are at it again. Said they want to clean up their reputation of getting cheap vendors. They have several stores they want striped by end of November and they want one contractor to do everything in the state or several states. I could handle more striping this fall. I just wish there were more than 2 Target stores in Maine

If they are looking for bids then they are still looking for cheap vendors.

Here in New England we will be striping around 27 Targets. But they hired us in April, and requested to hold off till the Fall. Easy work for my guys they love stuff like this.Target will let us close of sections of the lot in the morning and and then have the cars move later on. I had asked tareget about the stores in Maine and they said they were not going to do anything with them. We will start north and work our ways to Connecticut and Rhode Island. In areas were its more then 75 miles away and there is more then one days work they will stay over night. They can do about 3 targets a day, it will take about 3 weeks to complete them.

They let you work during the day? Are they 24 hour locations? I have heard most of them have to be done at night after closing. Many close at 10pm and open at 8am, that leaves a small window for work. Maybe 1 a night or 2 if they are smaller. Plus the paint often needs some time to cure before customers at 8 am.

No Offense, but that would be crazy to do them during the day, I could not afford for my guys to mess with traffic control.

Striping a retail giant in the middle of the day would in my opinion not be very productive. I have tried it with poor results. Traffic control is a major headache. People are a pain in the butt. I hope you do well with all that work. I hope you did not take on more than you can do. Good luck keep and us posted. If you run into any delays or trouble let me know Im near Springfield, MA I can help you if your in a pinch. Jon

I was just confused because I thought he said he was going to do 3 a day. If he did 3 a night like I was saying, then there is a window of 10pm to 6/8 am to do 3. That is pretty amazing! I agree with you guys, we have done a couple large places during the day with traffic control. Like blocking off sections at a time... It usually sucks when we do it. Now we don't attempt it unless there is extra-extra money in it. What would you guys charge for something like that? How do you charge for working in an "open-for-business" lot?

We stiped a new Target for a Asplalt company 3 years ago (500 stalls, 12 H.C.red curb ect.) made good $. Two weeks ago recieved a call from a sweeping ,landscaping co. wanting a price to restipe. After the 8 page scope of work with conditions paper from Target we sent a proposal, only to be told we were 3 times what they had to do the job. We went by about 1:30 am one morning and there was these 2 poor kids covered in paint trying to repair who knows what to I dont Know what kind of machine with a lot half painted that did not look very good. I really wanted to call their office the next day but did not.l

Target does not allow any restriping to be done while the store is open. Once it is closed it all yours. Jim

I don't work in an "open for business" lot unless it is 2:00am and it is Wal-Mart. We are to busy to dodge cars in an open lot during business hours. Now if you can close the lot before opening and somehow manage to keep vehicles and people out, that would be a different matter - - I have not done that yet for a simple restripe but we have worked behind pavers working major retail lots (malls & such) during the day. I just got done doing 2 small 40 stall lots and one other that was just over 100 stalls in about 3 hours. Started at 9:30 and after a dip in the pool to cool off, it is now 12:35am. These lots would have taken 8 hours to do during the day. Instead of wasting that time, I am comfortable, finishing a quart of Bud Light and winding down the day that mostly consisted of taking the kids tubing / skiing on the Detroit River and Lake Erie. The day was fun and the night was productive. I hate wasting time and won't deal with open lots during busy times (day time). It is going on an 18 hour day but that is what this business is about.

We currently have over 450+ jobs a year contracted. All of them 24 hour fast food and trucks stops. That basically means we don't work between the hours of 6am and 2pm and pretty much no Fridays or Saturdays. Although we've been picking up more day work, from our website, like churches and new construction. Probably an extra $4-5K per month. I'll admit, in the beginning I didn't know what I was getting into, but it just takes a little more patience to do this "open for business" work. After you've done the same stores for 7-8 years, you figure out the best times to work at each one. Some jobs we have down to less than an hour and of course there are those that take 2-3 maybe 4 if they get a rush. Honestly though, I'm just happy to have a steady six-figure gross and for the most part have the flexibility to work as I choose.
