20 gallons of water.....1/4 gallon o paint !!!................my guess is you don't have 100% paint entirely through the system yet. It sounds to me as if you have highly deluted paint in the system. Try it again and let the paint circulate through the hose and back into the bucket WITHOUT THE TIP ON!!!for a few minutes................then see what you get. Good Luck, Fonz

No , what i meant is Ive been just sprayin water thru it to test it on the pavement outside my house, about 20 gallons run thru it so far since buying the new tip, ive only sprayed 1/4 gal of paint thru the same tip(after flushin the hose like u mentioned).. I was wondering if runnin the psi too high with water damaged the tip?

While water will wear the tip slightly, it shouldn't have any abrasive solids in it like paint...

Trust us on this. 20 gal of water will in no way effect your tip.

the higher the pressure the more often a rebuild will be needed. i run my pressure a little over 1/4th of the max with a 317 yellow rack 5 tip and get a good spray useing latex. i use this size tip cause i am in no hurry and it's too d--- hot to be going too fast!

I found out that runnin the engine at 20% above idle speed and 500-600psi produces the best line with min overspray.. is this normal? btw the gun is at the closest settin to the ground..

600 psi gives you a good line. What kind of paint do you use? Sounds like colored water. Jim

Also, does that paint excessively fog, mist or otherwise overspray? I have experienced this too, I could shoot that thin (expletive) with the pressure all the way down with no tails.

The paint i was testing was colorwheel traffic yellow.. it seems really watery to start with.. but when I spray it the fan pattern is around 5" wide when the tip gaurd is 4-5" off the ground... In order to get my 4" line i have to be 2-3" from the ground and then the edges of the line splatter when it hits the pavement.. I dunno what im dooin wrong, im a striper noobie and am tryin to get all my ducks in a row before I invest any more into this

I would suggest investing in some good paint. We spray Hotline and Low VOC oil based and never have a fogging problem. we run larger tips but I would not drop my pressure below 1800psi. I think your biggest problem is your paint. Jim

Ya im gonna pick up some at SW this weekend.. I was told they will sell traffic paint by the gal besides 5gal buckets.. I dont wanna have 5 gal sittin here for a few months till my business is ready to start.. What do most of you guys use for tip size and psi? I have a 3900 and no LD, just walkin the ol legs off

I use the old method!!! The lower the first number the smaller the line !!Yes there are some exceptions but it works for ME !!! I use a 219 for stencil work. A 317 for a four inch parking lot stripe. And a 621 for stop lines .Playing with the pressure a little bit!(Line by Line)
