all the tip talk in the stop stripe post has led me to another question. do the "digits" in the tip numbers represent different characteristics in the tip or does each tips number as a whole serve as a referecence for that tip? in other words, can you tell just by the tips number what the tip is meant for?? i think i said that right thanks

Here's the tip chart. http://parkinglotplanet.com/Help_Stuff/flowrates.htm
Help out a kid if he is wrong 319 3= means you will get up to a 6 inch line ( other words 3-6 inches) you always double the first number and that will tell you how wide the line is going to be ex 417 (4-8 inch), 517 ( 5-10 inch), 617 (6-12 inches) 19= is your oracole size ( don't kill me for my spelling) The higher the oracole size the more paint is going to come out. 311 (your really walking slow) 313 ( you are picking up the speed but not walking that fast) 315 (you should be walking almost to normal) 317 ( you should just be starting to walk) and so on 321 ( you are running beside robert on his line driver) Hope it helps some what -Dean
Dean, I believe its a oriface size. Great info but, I wouldnt walk with anything less than a X19 tip. If you walk witha 15-17, you have to walk reallllly slow to get the proper amount of paint. Plus with a smaller tip, your going to clog A LOT. Go with a bigger tip with little or no clogs. Jim
The first number has nothing to do with the width of the line you will get. Depending on how high you mount the gun determends that. The first number is the spray pattern in degrees!!!.........A 2 _ _ has a 20 degree spay pattern A 3_ _ has a 30 degree spray pattern. a 4_ _ has a 40 degree spray pattern. A 6 _ _ has a 60 degree spray pattern. The second two numbers is the size or the orifice in thousands of an inch. So............A 319 has a 30 degree spray pattern with a 0.019 orifice.
For windy conditions I use a 419. You will be forced to mount it close to the ground to get a 4 inch line. The wind will have less time and distance to disturb the spray pattern. It's a pretty good set up and makes a beautiful crisp clean line even if it isn't windy.
aah-haa! now we're getting to the nitty gritty. great information sam and jpanz! that was exactly what i what i was looking for. hey Fonz... could you explain the degree point a bit more? when you say degree, are you referring to the angle of the edge of the spray fan?
Yes...you got it.................20 degreea of a 360 degree circle. The larger the first number, the spray pattern opens up farther and farther. Look at a common clear plastic circular template........your kids probably have one in their book bag. Notice the difference between 20 degrees and 60 degrees.....................thats your spray pattern difference!!!!! The difference between a 2 _ _ and a 6 _ _.
HAHAHA....depends on who ya talk to! I love my 219's, but others swear they can't get a 4" line using one. I would suggest using a 219/319 tip at the very least to lay down enough paint to be proud. If you have a Linedriver/LazyLiner and are proficient with it, a larger 321 or 323 tip might be necessary. If they made a LLT221 I would use it all the time, but alas, poor me, I must use a 321 or 323 to achieve Mach 1 on a LineDriver. If you have to set the gun reallly low to achieve a 4" line, you may have a worn tip or your pressure may be too low. I forgets which. Exposure to too much sun does that.
Well the tip is very new, maybe had like 20 gal of water thru it and maybe 1/4 gal of paint .. I was runnin water thru it at around 2000psi but i found out its overspraying horribly so I turned it way down to 400-600psi.. Same thing with the paint. I tried sprayin a 4" and it just made a horribly NON crisp edge kinda like it was blasting the paint down.. I am really new to this and am very green so bear with me.. I am in the process of startin a restriping business part time on weekends and some evenings after work to get a couple of clients under my belt and see if this restriping is gonna take off or have me fall flat on my face and paint fences with my LL3900
fences are just vertical lines I have found 2 tips with the same number spray different. (same preasure and both tips new) tips by different manufactures spray different. The slection here for tips is good exept none are striping tips. (soft edge) If I want a hard edge tip I have to order it. Dwan
Hey Ken, Last night I decided to take a brand new 325 back to the store I bought it from for the same reason. I don't think it is one, it doesn't put out nearly as much as a couple other 321 I have and it kept plugging. It would start to spray funny on one side then plug, thought maybe it was cracked at first but I don't think it is. It is one of those without the little pin in the orifice.
I am using the Yellow LL tip but the 317 is just spraying 5" wide with water. it mite spray a narrower fan with thicker paint thru it but I was just wondering what you would recommend for me to get the best coverage without a linedriver and doing mostly restriping..
