I submitted my bid, got a D & B number and a CCR number. It is a bit of a job and time. Now I see why people charge the govt more than the private sector. By the way its tough to meet a bid deadline when there is 6" of snow and ice on the asphalt and the roads are closed. Accur8
I should have warned you it is a bit of work getting registered. Its worth the effort. If your contract is over 20k you can get paid within a few days. Also you will be getting more calls for gov jobs now that your in the system. Make sure you stay up on the paperwork and pay yourself and your employees the proper wages per classisification. The contractors office will help you with compliance. I also carry job site regulation posters with me. We tape them to the side of the truck. Stay in compliance and play by the rules and you will find working for the government is worth the extra effort. They always pay their bills. Good luck, Jon
accur8....It's common now for a lot of government agencies to pay with credit cards, most in fact. Electronic biling is also fast becoming the norm. Not sure about the Corp of Engineers. As Jake stated, stay on top of the regs, keep your paperwork up, and you'll have no problems. Also, not sure if this applies to you, but if you are a disabled veteran owned business there are set aside programs that guarantee a certain percentage of work goes to these businesses.
The Corp of Engineers are very thorough. Bid a little higher than usual. They can be your worst nightmare. I did a parking lot for the Border Patrol in Laredo which was being overseen by them. The Super walks byt my truck and sees an extension cord that was torn in one place and the dude whips out his blade and cuts my cord in half. Dude walks over to me and tells me that I couldnt have that type of stuff in his jobsite. I told the dude that i wasnt using the cord and explained to him that I was the striper and I called his supervisor and told them they owed me a new xtension cord (it wasnt that EZ ). They did get me one ut the rest of the project was inspected inch by inch. I had another job with them at Laughlin airforce base in Del Rio TX. The Corp had me come out to restripe some oldass stripes that were an inch off. this dudes sometimes have too much pressure from the higher ups and tend to be very picky. I guess they got to prove to their superiors that they are doing their job. Trust me they tend to go overboard on some stuff. Be very carefull with these people.

I would rather starve than chase this kind of work...

These can be nice sized jobs that you won't have to bang heads with people who don't want to jump thru the hoops to get. Remember the Gov't pay rates (wages) on these.
