I was wondering who uses green lasers and if you use them all the time or just in certain situations. Forgot to ask, look into them in Nashville. Have looked at past posts and I am thinking about going this route to help me connect the dots and get away from snapping chaulk and string lines. Right now I am not real comfortable eyeballing. I can get away with it sometimes but not always.

I have been experimenting with them for about 4 years, trying to find the best ways to use them. Right now we have one with a line generator mounted on the handle of a striping weight which gives us a nice guideline, but ideally you could mount it directly on the machine. So far I have not found a vibration dampener that will make a machine mounted laser work really well....
For a line generator, I use a custom made Liquid Nitrogen Cooled Collimated Laser Beam Refractor made by General Universal Atomic Nuclear Oxygen Corporation. Nice folks there. When I told them I using it to layout parking lots and I wasn't going to be shooting down airplanes or satellites with my laser, they gave me a free one. Said the government would never miss it. I think they said the government paid about $2M for each copy. Amazingly enough, I found the same thing on eBay for $15 plus S&H. I bought several. Since I told the guy who sold it to me how much the government was paying for these, he doubled his price: Acme/RoadRunner Fireworks Company Beam Splitter This one doesn't have the Liquid Cooling attachment, but the folks at GUANO Corp. said it actually worked better without it. Said some government feller made them put it on so he could use up all the money in his budget. Go figure.
