I came across this today. Definitely check it out. http://www.parkingstripe.com/ I don't quite know how I feel about it. Could be a good new source of revenue but that depends on the product. Looks like a pain in the butt to put down and it will be interesting to see how "clean" the pavement has to be for it to stick. What do you guys think? Gerzie

I saw that a while back and I shudder to think of the price. I think they are prolly made for the rademark owner for his crews to install.

I'm always open for making an extra buck but that really looks tacky not to mention really slick when it gets wet. Talk about a liability issue!

Maybe someone should invite them to the expo next month. I am sure we could get all the answers to our questions if they had a booth. This product may very well have potential given the right circumstances. I would think we would be their main target market to get the word out about their products.

Sure got my mind going, I am open to another source of revenue also. Would it work? not everyware but I can see it working in some places. I don't believe it would hold up to my plowing and sanding for 30 days but in the summer it could work. I have been wanting to put "STOP" signs on a few of my stop bars ware a sign post is not practical. Gerzie, Thanks for the link Dwan

It's kind of funny when you think about it. People not only have a hard enough time parking within the lines, now they want them to start reading them as well. I see a lot of confussion and people on their hands and knees trying to read a stripe that someone parked over.

having just read this i phoned them up, the striper gets $2.00 for laying them down (which is peanuts....) digital printing has been out a while & I know in the UK they are coming into difficulties with the product lasting on the ground, I think that's why its so temporary. The concept is excellent i think for the advertiser but I can't see the likes of us making much revenue from it as first you need to find a parkinglot big enough to warrent it, even with the 15% mark up and $2.00 per line installed there would be a lot of work/selling/prep involved before you have put down the product. Though if you owned a parkinglot and some one like Adidas, American express etc paid you to have their advertising on your lot then your on top. I have enquired about having my own logo done though, which wouldn't be bad idea as we are all in a unique position to have our advertising advertised for free in the parkinglots we do our selves just putting one of these down at a parkinglot space nearest the entry. It would be brilliant for Jimbo (Jpanz) cause he does that big stadium and imagine the people that would see his logo down there.!

Why mess around with temporary (possibly hazardous) tape? Get Robert to cut you some 3.5" custom stencils. They'd last a lot longer than 30 days and at a fraction of the price.

Robert has already cut me a stencil "T. W. HALL" in a 2" letter which I have for 2 years now put on every parkinglot I do. I spray white over the stencil on one of the blue HC lines. Makes a nice signuture for me on the lot. I now have a vinyl cutter for sign graphics that I can cut any senncil I want. It is good for 1 time use or good for a pattern to cut long term uses out of any other material. anything that can be drawn on the puter can be cut down to 1/8" letters up to 2' letters and graphics. I do beleave there is a place for this type of advertising but not everyware. cleaning lot before aplicsation, extra pay, reaplying when dammaged, extra pay, removal at end of contract, extra pay. I think it would take longer then to strip so maybe $15 each to apply would be in the ball park. Plus prep. This made me think that I have the capability of producing a 4" wide by 50 yard line out of vinyl for temperary markings. Just clean area, peal and stick. my cost for materials would be about $.08/ft. not bad for temp marking which would leave nothing when removed. I will have to try it when it warms up. I still think the best answer would be that paint jet printer that someone had listed on here that was pulled behind a bike. Now if that was ever refinded it would be worth as much as a Lazy Liner/Line /driver. Dwan

What I got from the web site is that this is something the Parking Stripe people sell to large accounts, like VISA; FORD; etc. and they have there own contractors install and maintain the stickers. Property owners would contact Parking Stripe to generate revenue. There is nothing for us to sell to our customers, unless they want their own shopping center logo or store name advertised to people that are already at their store!! And if they only pay their contractors $2 per stripe to install... no thanks.. I can make that in about 6 seconds already. Just thought of something fun to do with them though. If you find a lot with them on it, peal up a bunch, turn them upside down, go sit on a bench and watch.

Dwan, what kind of cutter and how wide is it?

Dwan, I hadn't heard of that one. Why did you chose the Panther? Did you look into any others like Graphtec, Allen Datagraph, or Gerber?

I picked the panther partly because of the down 600 grams preasure. I wanted what would cut the thickest material. It was also suggest as the best cutter on a graphics site I belong to. It was not the cheepest by far but seemed to best fit my situation. Signwarehouse people have also been great to work with. free freight for over $100 ordered and for me that is important. They send everything to me 2nd day air. It may not be the best machine but with all the homework I did it was the best I found. My son builds preformance parts for hotrods and with it we can cut sandblast mask then sandblast his logo on the parts. Kind of cool looking. With the cutter, software, and a few supplys 10 rolls of vinyl and hand tools I have about 3K invested.

Getting back to the line advertising!!!! They posted yesterday looking for installers. I looked up the site and the installation is not to difficult but much harder on the back than what we do. They are claiming BIG $. I ran the numbers and it is PEANUTS! Lets say you average 20 stripes an hour, that's one every 3 minutes, at $3 = 60$ an hour divide that by 2 men= $30 on hour. Then subtract you overhead; drive time, hourly rate, payroll taxes.... Does not leave much. A better price would be at least $5 a stripe. This is then $100 an hour $50 per man. At $50 an hour have a better chance to actually making some money.

At $50 an hour have a better chance to actually making some money. At $50 an hour you better not have anyone helping you...There is more money to be made striping than installing those ads for what they offer, and imagine having to go service a few of those, that would be convenient for even less money. Establish a minimum before you take on that work.

I talked to a friend yesterday who had actually talked to them about the deal...here was the real "clincher"...they say they do all the sales but had a line about how they might not have a lot of accounts in his area at first so he could get extra commission for selling the acounts...of course he realized if he sold the mall or whatever then he quit the next guy to get the "deal" would be shown the properties he sold as accounts the stripe advertising people had waiting...hmmm. This thing can't work IMHO; we are all stripers...so we always look at stripes, ask a non striper when did they ever really pay any attention to a stripe...heck most people don't even look close enough to park between them much less look down & read an ad on them

You are right on, Don. This sounds like a gimmick that has no real future or profit potential for us. Count me out on this waste of time.

I think "striping fool" hit it on the head...if you can make $2 in a matter of seconds "Why" would anyone even consider this? Just my opinion.
