Stupid people that move your cones!

On a bad day, I had this happen one time too many. My speech to the woman (and thne the next man) went something like this - in a tone not recognized as calm or nice. "Are you so arrogant that you believe those cones you just drove over do not apply to you or are you just too ignorant to know what it means to have an entire entrance to a parking lot coned off? If you are too arrogant, them may God have pitty on you because it is people like you that make this world a worse place to live in. If it is that you are ignorant then I forgive you and ask that you leave the way you came in without driving over ANY paint on the ground." Of course I was swearing a bit and there were a few other things I said in the heat of the moment but Either way, they were belittled, ashamed and very surprised that someone would actually criticize them for doing what they had done. By the way, this was a middle school parking lot and they all simply wanted to get Johnny closer to the football practice field so he didn't have to walk so far - - guess it would have been too much for their kids to get another 200 yards of exercise before football practice. I had cones placed about 4' apart across the end of the drive and some drove over them and some drove around them through a ditch to get into the lot. I am usually calm and collected but I really lost it with a couple of them - - made them look like fools right in front of their kids and other parents that did park outside to walk in. I felt much better afterward.
Since most of our work is at night, I borrowed a technique used during WWII. I carry a really large spot light and zap would-be offenders as soon as they get near the cones..... I simply shoot newspaper delivery people on sight. Saves time. They think nothing of driving thru cones and barrier tape to save 30 steps. No traffic laws apply to newspaper delivery people (I think that is the 11th commandment).
This is what works for me: Place pylons first Caution tape Signage Lot Closed This is how I deal with the newspaper delivery people: I tell them to drop them off at the pylons and we will take them to there appropiate spot. If you need to enter honk your horn and we will let you in and out (box service) Greet them politely, remember they work nights, as we do. I cover a large area. It has taken me a few years, but I have some of these newspaper guy's that will actually get out of there car and deliver the paper. I have found this is easier than having to replace pylons, fetch pylons and the loss of pylons. It works for me.
BTS.. you are right on the money.. the newpaper people are the worst...they have no regard for anything or anyone around them. Other people that move cones and drive over cones are just impatient idiots. So.. would filling a few cones with concrete be so bad?
We have done countless fast food resturants at night, I have almost got completely ran over because of drunk people. People just don't care, Cones are an inconvience to them because they are lazy...there are some exceptions, like handicapped people but they are the most considerate. We just put enough cones down to where they are not able to drive through the gaps, or we have cones and someone at each entrance while we are running our machines....then you still have the @holes that drive over the curb and through the grass to get in the parking lots. Sometimes, you just can't win.
Thanks for all your responses exspecially about the newspaper guys cause aint that the truth...I was thinking of putting up signage but cant figure anything clever and short to put on a reflective sign at the entrances to really tell people to F off, my favorite lately though is "I HAVE TO GET TO THE BANK..." its 3,4,5 AM you dough head go find another one
Can anyone figure out why a person needs a cash machine at 3:am? We usually see 2 cars pull in and 1 guy/girl gets out go to cash machine gets money goes to other car. In a few minutes they get out and go back to there own car. sits there for sometimes 10 mininuts then leave. I have a few bumper stickers that say "I AM STUPID" and if I can get thoes running over my cones to stop and talk I offer to put one on there car. Some times I get told to go to, and other times they say they are sorry. Eather way they have already done dammage.

Hi! I am leaving the club and want to party until dawn. Could you bring me some cocaine? I'll meet you at the ATM.... I never understood why police never figured this one out.. .
I'm sure that they have figured it out and it goes to Big Brothers Data base for those using their ATM's in the wee hours of the morning. Ever wonder how they figure out how much money is being spent on drugs. They supposedly don't know how much drugs are coming across the borders. Maybe that's how the independent agencies figure out approximately how much Money is spent.
Does anyone use a glass bead dispenser on their titan machines? Just wondering how well they work, if there are any different types other than the ones sold by titan, and how much they should cost? I will be bidding on a large job that requires glass beads and if I get the job I will be needing a bead dispenser. Frank
I bought a bead dispenser from Dispensing Technologies for a Speeflo a few years back. It was not as nice as the Graco, but that was before Graco had one. http://www.dispensingtech.com/bottom_home.html
I figured out in the few years doing this striping ... that half the people don't know what you're doing, half don't know what they're doing, and the rest are cool. Once I was striping a parking lot at a 7/11, I just did the crosswalk going into the store. Had cones, yellow caution tape, everything but neon lites. In the short time I was there, a guy walked under the tape, stepped on the lines, walked under the tape again, and walked into the store ... leaving a nice trail, including on the carpet. I calmly told him, he was bummed, and proceeded to do the same thing on his exit. I HAD to laugh. And he was quite sober. And shortly after, a car pulled in , and drove through the cones and tape ... on the same crosswalk. hit every line. I freaked, (not like me) I yelled at him across the lot, he freaked, backed out, hitting the lines again, and zipped out the driveway ... trail of white dots fading into the sunset. I shake my head, roll my eyes, and be grateful I'm not them.
The Dispensing Technology web site is hosed. Anyone know if they are still in business? I think you could adapt a Graco beader to a Titan machine. Might have to drill a 1/4" hole in the gun holder, otherwise, I be live it would bolt on. I have to spend a good 30 minutes setting up the beader. If you used it every day, you could leave it on, but setting up the first time is a pain no matter what brand. By "feed the chickens" Stripes means hand apply. Also, you could use a fertilizer spreader to apply the beads. Takes an extra person compared to the machine mounted beader, he needs to follow right behind the striper so the beads fall in wet paint.
Started a large gated appartment complex today. The property manager posted notices yesterday to half of the tenents to park elsewhere. Vehicles everywhere this am. Traffic in and out. Two ran over cones. Two ran over cones through wet lines. One got barrier tape wrapped up in front end. I threatened one guy, he took off and purposely ran over a cone. Even the brunettes acted blonde and said after they ran through a barrier "that was wet paint"? Thank goodness the beer is cold. Packing 9mm in AM. This may be my last post
