Genesis got a pile of stores like you said. Now who did they get? Probably not anyone that posts here and if they did they won't talk about it now cause Genesis told everyone to stripe just whats in front of the Target store...................Wrong. I got several Target's by bidding at the same time as Genesis and all else. If you open their site plans like they told you , you would see the very evident property line in red! The stores that I bid on and lost were the ones that entailed striping MORE than just in front of the store. Genesis rep told me that his contractors were complaining that once they got to the site they found out they were supposed to stripe more than what they bid on. Surpirse Surprise. When I send out a crew to stripe something they go with a property site plan in hand so there is no confusion of what to do. Would be interesting to talk to someone that agreed to stripe a Target for Genesis. A Genesis rep told me that the stores I asked him about went for $2000 - $2500. One of the stores I asked him about had 1400 parking stalls. Good luck to whoever was doing that one for the $2500, it sure wouldn't be me. Blaine
we bid the local store that we did 5 years ago new layout, and where told by the swweping landscaping co.on our follow-up call that we needed to be in the range of pricing as stated above. With the eight pages of paper that they want you to perform up to it is a loser for us.One week later went thru the lot and looked like the local wal-mart lot.Yellow paint faintly applied by someone who had too much to drink and/or no sleep in about a week.
When the big property maintenance folks call me, they seem to have a charitable attitude by their allowing me to "bid" (Geez, I hate that word) on their properties. I get fiendish delight out of telling them we don't normally do restripes. The discussion here illuminates why we don't. I did have a pretty good discussion with the Genesis people, though. They were courteous and seemed appreciative for our input on the scope and regs......still refused to "bid".
I am wondering if anyone ( a contractor) has gone out and bid on a whole bunch of stores direct through Target? I know a few years back we got calls from national maintenance co's as well as a few big landscaping firms, (I think one was Senske), Anyway if they go after them, why couldn't we, I assume a contractor would produce a much better job even with his subs, than a national maintenance co, or landscaping co, more so because we would know how to pick a good sub etc...
Just got a call to look at one in Idaho - 500 spaces, 10 handicap spaces. My striping competitor/buddy alerted me to the information on Target at "planet". We will look at the job and be upfront with our concerns. We'll see what happens. Thanks for the "fair warning". JIm
I was lucky/unlucky enough to win the bid on the N. Idaho Target. Genesis wanted a 2 year striping warranty. I refused to sign the contract with such terms. We now have an amended contract with a guarentee that I only repaint the lines in their original configuration, no time life guarentee. As I talked to the rep, I asked him how a guarentee could be made on paint that sits in 100 degree sun, scraped by snow plows, studded snow tires, tire chains, gravel and sand, plus freezing and thawing cycles. He agreed it isnt realistic. By the way, 500 stalls and 10 handicapped parkig areas--- $2000 ish.
Update on Genesis........................ I have a signed contract from them dated Aug 1st. I have a W.O.# also. I went to paint last night at it was just painted a few days ago. I contacted Genesis and they said OOPS!!!!! Well pay you anyways, we signed a contract.
I'm in Spokane, Wa. The store is in Coeur d'alene Idaho. I talked to the manager at the store and it appears the store hired another striper because it took Genesis to long. Keep in mind my contract was dated and signed Aug 1 from Genesis. The store was striped the last week of July.
New update on Genesis. They called me today and stated even though I have a signed contract, a work order number and a date set, and even though they said they wolud "take care of me". Their minds have changed. They have decided not to pay me. They are still looking for the striper that did the job and they feel they authorized him to do the work. I cry out to all stripers, before you enter into an agreement with genesis, think of the 2,000 is dollars I am out. It could be you next. Accur8
I'm new this year just starting out although I worked as an "Employee" a few years back. Thankfully my previous employer "Hooked me Up" with a lot maintenence company which gave me several targets this year in various locations. no problems so far with payment and the jobs are actually paying decent. Very happy so far with the contractor, although I also have spoken with Genesis and got the feeling that they were a little more "Cutthroat". Looking foward to getting some more work next year and really enjoy reading the post's on this site and often use it as a reference tool when I need advice! Great to be in the company of you "Pro-Stripers"
I don't think you should expect to get paid for doing nothing. You should be paid for your mobility charge to show up only to find it had already been painted. If you wanted to get paid for your contract, you should have performed to the terms of your contract. Even though it had been painted, paint it anyhow and then you should expect to get paid for work performed. This is not looking out for the best interest of your customer but it would be a justifiable way to demand payment. If they screwed up and "double booked" the job, they should expect to pay the 2nd contractor (you) a mobility fee. The mistake was not yours and you saved them the cost of a complete restripe by being prudent.
